Travel App
GOAL: To create a travel app that is easy to use both while planning a vacation and while actively traveling to unfamiliar places.
THE PROBLEM:
Not knowing where to go when in a new city
THE SOLUTION:
An app that finds attractions, restaurants, and tours of notoriety
MY ROLE: UX Researcher and UX Designer
TIME FRAME: 2 weeks
User Persona
Aubry who is adventurous and frugal needs assistance with planning a vacation that will give her a break from the mundane while saving money. A list of memorable activities and a way to gauge those costs will save her money and ensure she has a once-in-a-lifetime experience in a new city.
User Interview Insights
Affinity Diagram
“When I travel, I like to get lots of awesome pictures and videos.”
User Flow
Story Board
Sketches
Since many of the interviewees mentioned making a list of places they wanted to visit before traveling, I prioritized a feature that allowed a user to favorite and view a list of favorited experiences.
Digital Wireframes
Further in the design process I created a screen for planning an itinerary since a few of the interview responders mentioned making one for their vacation.
Guerilla Testing Results
Final Thoughts
All in all I learned a lot from designing my own travel app. Looking back, I would like to have had more time to iterate on it and make it the best app it could be. As it is now I don’t think it would be very easy to code.
The app would be nice to use when traveling because other similar apps on the market that I tested didn’t come up with many attractions in smaller cities. In the future and after further iterations this app would definitely be able to add something to the tourism industry.
